Tube Type: Formalin-fixed, Paraffin-embedded Tumor Tissue (FFPET)
Collection Info:
Specimen must be immediately fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin. The volume of formalin should be at least 10 times the volume of the specimen.  Optimum fixation time is 12-24 hours, not to exceed 48 hours or be less than 6 hours. Tissue should then be placed in a paraffin-embedded tissue block. Maintain specimen at room temperature. Label specimen containers with patient's name and a unique identifying number.
FFPET Limitations or Unacceptable Conditions: Specimen fixed in fixative other than 10% neutral buffered formalin or undergo decalcification.
SPECIMENS CANNOT BE FROZEN.
Please provide:
(1) Pathology Report
(2) H & E of the fixed specimen. Region of tumor marked by a pathologist on the H & E.

Methods

Fluorescent In situ Hybridization (FISH) pretreatment of 5 um cut tissue slide. Processing of tissue and analysis of 60 cells. Probes specific for detection of rearrangement of the ALK gene located on chromosome 2p23.

Clinical Utilities

Detection of EML4/ALK rearrangement associated with Non-small cell lung carcinoma.
