Assay is a clotting test measuring Protein S Activity. Levels may be decreased in pregnancy, vitamin K deficiency, recent surgery, and coumadin (OAT) or L-asparaginase or estrogen therapy. Lupus Anticoagulants may give prolonged results. If result is low, it is recommended that free and total Protein S levels be performed to determine the type of Protein S deficiency.
