LUPUS ANTICOAGULANT (PATIENT NOT ON HEPARIN OR COUMADIN)
General Information
HLAB/HOL Code: PTTLA
UPHSM LIS Test #: 3424
Schedule: Mon, Wed, and Fri
Testing Time: varies
Testing Lab: UP Health System-Marquette

Specimen Info
Only 1 specimen type required, unless otherwise specified
Volume: 6 ml plasma
Temperature: Frozen
Tube Type: Light-Blue Top (Citrate)
Collection Info:
Spin specimen, remove plasma, and spin plasma again. Place plasma in two plastic vials (3mL in each) and freeze immediately.
A. Double centrifugation of specimens is critical for accurate results as platelet contamination may cause spurious results.
B. Patient should not be receiving heparin or coumadin. Anticoagulation therapy should be discontinued 10 - 14 days prior to specimen
collection in order to obtain meaningful results.

Methods
Photo optical clot detection
Patient's plasma is initially screened with a PTT, PT, and DVVT before going on with a cascade of tests.
Based upon initial screening results the following may be added: Thrombin Time, DVVT Confirmation, Normalized Ratio, DD
